【Jazz Future: Timothy Wan Quartet】

Throughout the evolution of jazz, “legacy” has always been the key to sustaining its vitality. Jazz legends like Miles Davis and Art Blakey nurtured countless musicians through their own bands.
Timothy Wan is a seasoned local saxophonist who graduated from the University of Auckland's Jazz Studies program in New Zealand. Renowned for his solid bebop technique, he is also a signed artist for Taiwanese instrument brand TK Melody.
This month at CODA Jazz Kissa, a particularly meaningful concert will unfold: Veteran saxophonist Timothy Wan will lead three young graduates from Fountain Academy, whom he personally mentored, in a joint performance: Pianist Aero Yip, double bassist (or electric bassist) Chun Leung, and drummer Jeffrey Wong.
All three young musicians are outstanding graduates nurtured by Fountain Academy, where Timothy serves as a principal instructor. This “teacher-student collaboration” not only showcases the fruits of his teaching but also embodies the invaluable spirit of jazz's hands-on tradition.
The concert pays tribute to post-bop and classic works from the 1970s and 80s, featuring selections including jazz maestro Wayne Shorter's poetic “Infant Eyes,” trumpeter Kenny Dorham's elegant “Lotus Blossom,” and guitarist Pat Metheny's melodically moving “Song For Bilbao.”
